Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery in Gynecologic Malignant and Benign Pathologies
Under the directorship of Dr. Farr Nezhat, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island, Mineola, NY, is offering a 1-year or 2-year minimally invasive surgery fellowship program.

Dr. Farr Nezhat is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who is a pioneer and leading authority in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of malignant and benign pelvic gynecologic pathologies. His expertise lies in treating ovarian, uterine and cervical cancers; as well as severe and multi-organ endometriosis, pelvic masses, ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids.
The fellow will work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of providers and will rotate at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals (Weill Cornell Medical Center and Lower Manhattan Hospital). Several other faculty members, including urogynecological, general, and colorectal surgeons, will work closely with the fellow.
The comprehensive program will offer:
- Core training in gynecologic minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic, robotic, hysteroscopic, abdominal, and vaginal surgery for complex, benign and malignant conditions
- Training in risk management such as minimizing adverse events and managing laparoscopic, robotic and hysteroscopic complications
- Participation in clinical research
- Development of teaching and leadership skills
- Training in fiscal accountability
NYU Langone Hospital Long Island is the clinical campus for Stony Brook University School of Medicine. The hospital is a tertiary (Level III) care center with approximately 4,700 deliveries and over 3,500 surgical gynecological procedures annually. NYU Langone Hospital Long Island has its own independent, fully accredited Ob/Gyn residency program (5 residents per PGY level) and a joint Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program with Stony Brook University Medical Center.
In addition to the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Division, the Department has the following Divisions: Maternal-Fetal Medicine, General Ob/Gyn, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.
Applicants for the fellowship program must be graduates of a 4-year accredited Ob/Gyn residency and hold a valid medical license, or otherwise be legally authorized to practice medicine in the State of New York.
Physicians outside the United States can apply for an Observership, which would allow the applicant to observe in the operating room and on rounds. Observerships are approved by NYU Langone Hospital Long Island Human Resources and are subject to additional requirements.
